The best IPTV UK option depends on what you actually watch. If you want one low yearly price for UK channels, international channels and a movie library on a Fire TV Stick or Smart TV, our own IPTV Journal plan costs $89 for 12 months. If you only need the main free channels, Freeview costs nothing beyond the TV Licence, and if you want official Premier League or Champions League coverage, licensed services like Sky, NOW, TNT Sports and DAZN are the safe routes.
This page is for UK households who are tired of large Sky or Virgin bills and want a clear, honest comparison before paying anyone. IPTV Journal sells its own IPTV plan, which we include below; we also cover legal live TV services so you can compare.

How we judge an IPTV or live TV service
These are the criteria we use when we compare services on this site. They are a checklist you can use yourself, not lab results: we have not run speed tests or counted outages for any provider below.
- Stability at peak times. Busy weekend afternoons and big live events are when weak services struggle. Ask how the provider handles busy nights and what to do if a channel drops.
- UK channels and sport. Check that the channels you care about are included, including your BBC and ITV regions.
- EPG (TV guide). A working programme guide makes IPTV feel like normal TV. Without it you are scrolling through lists of channel names.
- Device support. It should work on what you already own: Fire TV Stick, Android TV or Google TV, Samsung or LG Smart TV, Apple TV, phones and laptops.
- Support response. You need a real way to reach someone, ideally 24/7, before and after you pay.
- Payment safety. Card payment through a known processor gives you more protection than crypto, gift cards or bank transfers to a personal account.
- Legality. Know who holds the rights to what you watch. Licensed services are always the safe route for UK sport, and you should check UK rules before buying any IPTV subscription.
The options in detail
1. IPTV Journal (our plan)
IPTV Journal is the subscription we sell on this site. There is one plan: 12 months for $89, which works out at about $7.40 a month. It is billed in US dollars, so your bank will convert it to pounds at its own rate; for the whole year it comes to roughly what two months of a NOW Sports membership costs.
What you get: 20,000+ live channels including UK, US and Canadian channels and sport, pay-per-view events, a movies and series library, HD and 4K where available, 24/7 support and instant activation. It works on a Firestick, Android TV, Smart TVs, Apple TV, phones and PCs through player apps such as TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro.
Pros
- One yearly payment instead of several monthly UK subscriptions
- UK and international channels, sport, PPV and on-demand in one place
- Runs on devices most UK homes already own
- 24/7 support and instant activation
Cons
- No free trial is listed; ask support before paying if you want to test
- You need a separate player app, which takes a few minutes to set up
- The number of screens you can use at once is not listed here, so ask support before you buy (purchases are covered by a 7-day money-back guarantee)
- Priced in US dollars, so the final amount in pounds depends on your card
Who it suits: people who watch a mix of UK channels, sport and international TV and want one simple yearly cost. You can see the plan on our IPTV Journal pricing section, and read how to subscribe to IPTV safely first if this is your first IPTV purchase.
2. Freeview
Freeview is the UK’s free digital TV service. Plug a TV aerial into a modern television and you get the main channels from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 plus many more, with no monthly fee. Freeview Play TVs and boxes also bring the broadcasters’ catch-up apps together in one place.
- Price: free, but you still need a TV Licence to watch live TV
- Pros: no contract, no subscription, reliable over an aerial, good for news and big live events on BBC and ITV
- Cons: no Sky Sports or TNT Sports, and you need decent aerial reception
Who it suits: anyone who mostly watches free UK channels. If you are choosing between free platforms, see our Freeview vs Freesat comparison.
3. NOW (Entertainment and Sports)
NOW is Sky’s no-contract streaming service. You pay month to month for “memberships” and can cancel whenever you like. At the time of writing, the Entertainment membership costs around £7.99 a month, Cinema around £9.99, and the Sports membership around £34.99 a month. A 24-hour Sports Day Membership costs around £14.99, which is handy for a single big match. A Boost add-on (around £6 a month) adds better picture quality and more streams.
- Pros: official Sky channels, no contract, easy to start and stop around the football season
- Cons: the Sports membership is expensive month after month, and full HD needs the Boost add-on
Who it suits: Sky fans who hate contracts. Our NOW Sports membership price guide breaks down every option.
4. Sky Stream
Sky Stream delivers Sky TV over your broadband through a small puck, so you do not need a satellite dish. At the time of writing, Essential TV starts at around £15 a month on a 24-month contract or around £18 a month on a 31-day rolling contract. It includes Sky Atlantic, around 100 channels and Netflix with ads. Adding Sky Sports brings the total to around £35 a month on the 24-month deal.
- Pros: the full Sky interface, recordings in the cloud, apps in one place, no dish
- Cons: long contracts for the best price, mid-contract price rises are common, and sport costs extra
Who it suits: people who want the official Sky experience. If sport is the main reason, read our guide to the cheapest way to watch Sky Sports before signing.
5. Virgin Media TV
Virgin Media sells TV as part of a broadband bundle, using either its own TV box or a Stream box. Sky Sports, TNT Sports and other channels are available as add-ons. Prices depend heavily on your postcode, the bundle and current offers, so we do not quote a single figure here: enter your postcode on Virgin Media’s site for a real price.
- Pros: one bill for broadband and TV, fast broadband in cable areas, sports add-ons available
- Cons: only available where Virgin’s network reaches, contracts are usually 18 to 24 months, and prices rise each year
Who it suits: homes already on Virgin broadband. See Virgin Media vs Sky TV for a direct comparison.
6. TNT Sports via HBO Max (or other providers)
Since March 2026, TNT Sports streams through HBO Max in the UK, replacing the old discovery+ route. At the time of writing, the HBO Max plan with TNT Sports costs around £30.99 a month. TNT Sports carries Champions League football, some Premier League games, rugby and more. You can also add TNT Sports through Sky or Virgin Media.
- Pros: official TNT coverage with no TV box needed, plus HBO Max shows
- Cons: expensive if you only watch a few matches, and it does not include Sky Sports
Who it suits: Champions League and rugby fans. Our TNT Sports price guide covers every route.
7. DAZN
DAZN is the main UK home of boxing streaming. Its Ultimate tier costs around £24.99 a month at the time of writing and includes DAZN’s pay-per-view fight nights, which used to be sold separately. Other plans exist, so check DAZN’s site for the full price list.
- Pros: big boxing events with PPVs included in Ultimate, works on most devices
- Cons: narrow focus, so most people need another service for football
Who it suits: boxing fans who watch several big fights a year.
How to set up IPTV on common UK devices
Most UK homes watch on an Amazon Fire TV Stick, an Android TV or Google TV box or television, a Samsung or LG Smart TV, or an Apple TV. Our best streaming device UK guide helps if you are choosing one. Remember that a player app is just a player: it ships with no channels, and you add your own subscription login.
Fire TV Stick
- Go to Settings, then My Fire TV, and update the software.
- Install a player app from the Amazon Appstore if it is listed there, or with the Downloader app if your provider gives you an official download link.
- Open the app and choose Xtream Codes login or M3U URL, then enter the details your provider emailed you.
- Add the EPG (TV guide) link if it is not loaded automatically, and let it update.
- Mark your favourite UK channels so they are easy to find.
Our TiviMate on Firestick guide walks through each screen.
Android TV and Google TV
- Open the Google Play Store on the TV or box.
- Install a player app such as TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro.
- Enter your login details or playlist link, then the EPG link.
- Use a wired Ethernet connection if the box is close to your router for the steadiest picture.
Samsung and LG Smart TVs
- Open your TV’s app store (Samsung Apps or LG Content Store) and search for “IPTV player”.
- Install a player that supports your login type and enter your details.
- If no player on your TV suits you, plug a Fire TV Stick or Google TV device into a spare HDMI port instead.
Apple TV
- Open the App Store on the Apple TV and search for an IPTV player app.
- Install it, add your playlist or Xtream login, then add the EPG link.
- Sort channels into favourites so the UK channels you watch most are at the top.
A note on the TV Licence
In the UK you need a TV Licence to watch or record live TV as it is being broadcast, on any channel and any device, and that includes live channels watched through an app or IPTV. You also need one to use BBC iPlayer. The fee rose to £180 a year from April 2026. Our guide to the TV Licence for streaming explains when you do and do not need one.
Red flags when buying IPTV in the UK
- Crypto, gift card or bank transfer only. No card option means no chargeback protection if things go wrong.
- “Lifetime” deals. No service can promise to run forever for a single small payment.
- No support contact. If you cannot reach anyone before you pay, you will not reach anyone after.
- Prices that look impossible, such as “every Sky channel for £2 a month”.
- Selling through social media messages only, with no website, terms or business details.
- Pressure to buy multi-year plans before you have watched a single match.
- Asking you to install apps from unknown links or to turn off your device’s security settings without explaining why.
Is IPTV legal in the UK?
IPTV as a technology is legal: BT, Sky and Virgin all deliver TV over the internet. What is illegal is selling or streaming channels without the rights to show them, and UK authorities take this seriously. In August 2026, a Chorley man was jailed for six and a half years at Preston Crown Court after an investigation by the City of London Police’s PIPCU unit, following a referral from FACT; his illegal streaming business had made around £980,000. Before buying any IPTV service, check what rights it holds and read our guides on whether IPTV is legal in the UK and the UK IPTV crackdown in 2026. If you want guaranteed licensed sport, the official services above are the safe choice.
Which option should you choose?
- If you want one low yearly price for UK, US and international channels and movies, pick IPTV Journal at $89 for 12 months.
- If you mostly watch BBC, ITV and Channel 4, pick Freeview and pay nothing beyond the TV Licence.
- If you want official Sky Sports and Premier League with no contract, pick NOW Sports, or a NOW day pass for single matches. Our cheapest way to watch the Premier League guide compares every route.
- If you want the full Sky box experience and do not mind a contract, pick Sky Stream; if you are already on Virgin broadband, compare Virgin Media TV first.

FAQ
What is the best IPTV UK option for sport?
For guaranteed official coverage, NOW Sports or Sky Stream gives you Sky Sports, TNT Sports via HBO Max covers the Champions League, and DAZN covers boxing. Paying for all three runs to well over £80 a month.
Do I need a TV Licence if I use IPTV?
Yes, if you watch or record live TV as it is broadcast, on any channel or device. You also need one for BBC iPlayer. The licence costs £180 a year from April 2026.
Does IPTV Journal have a free trial?
No free trial is listed for our plan. If you want to test before paying, contact support and ask what options are available. Do not assume a trial exists.
Can I use IPTV on a Fire TV Stick in the UK?
Yes. Install a player app such as TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro, enter the login details from your provider, and add the EPG link. Newer Fire TV Stick models handle IPTV more smoothly than older ones.
How many screens can I use with IPTV Journal?
The number of simultaneous connections is not listed on this page. Ask support before you pay so you know exactly how many TVs or phones can watch at once.
Is Freeview enough for most people?
For news, soaps and big events shown on BBC and ITV, often yes. Freeview does not include Sky Sports, TNT Sports or most Premier League games, so sports fans usually need something extra.
What broadband speed do I need for IPTV?
A steady connection matters more than a big headline number. Use Ethernet where you can, keep the router close to the TV, and check other devices are not using the connection heavily during big matches.
