Most American TV channels in the UK are not available as live channels, because US networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox sell their shows to UK broadcasters and streamers instead. The good news is that almost every popular American series, plus plenty of US news and sport, is available legally through Sky Atlantic, HBO Max, Paramount+, Disney+, Prime Video, Netflix and a few US-branded channels on UK TV.
This guide maps where each type of American content lives in the UK, with prices at the time of writing.
Why you cannot just watch US channels live
TV rights are sold country by country. When a US network makes a hit show, the UK rights usually go to the highest bidder here, which might be Sky, a streaming service or a terrestrial channel. That is why the same show can sit on a different service in the UK than it does in America.
Using tools to pretend you are in the US breaks most services’ terms, so this guide sticks to what is officially offered to UK viewers.
Where American shows live in the UK
| Service | American content it is known for | Price at the time of writing |
|---|---|---|
| HBO Max | HBO series and Warner Bros. films | From £4.99 a month (Basic with Ads) to £14.99 (Premium) |
| Sky Atlantic (Sky, NOW, Virgin) | Big US drama, including many HBO-linked titles | Included in Sky and NOW entertainment packages |
| Paramount+ | CBS, Paramount and Showtime-branded series, Comedy Central | Around £5.99 a month for the entry plan; included with Sky Cinema |
| Disney+ | Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, plus FX and ABC series | Check Disney+ for current UK plans |
| Prime Video | Amazon originals and licensed US series | Included with Prime, around £8.99 a month or £95 a year |
| Netflix | Netflix originals and licensed US series | Included with Sky’s Essential TV, or direct from Netflix |
HBO Max launched in the UK on 26 March 2026, according to Warner Bros. Discovery, which made it much easier to watch HBO shows directly. Sky’s Ultimate TV package has also included an HBO Max with ads plan, according to comparison sites, so check what your Sky package bundles before paying twice.
US-branded channels you can watch on UK TV
Some American channel brands do run UK versions. Depending on your provider and package, you may find:
- Comedy Central and MTV on Sky, Virgin Media and via Paramount+
- CNN International on pay TV platforms
- Sky News and BBC News for US politics coverage from a UK angle
- US-themed channels on free streaming platforms such as Pluto TV and Samsung TV Plus, which have UK versions
Fox News has not been carried on UK TV since it was withdrawn in 2017, and US local news channels are not offered here.
American sport in the UK
If American sport is what you are after, UK rights holders cover a lot of it:
- NFL: Sky Sports shows NFL games, and DAZN has offered NFL Game Pass in the UK.
- Other US leagues: rights move between Sky Sports, TNT Sports and streaming services, so check each league’s official UK broadcaster for the current season.
For pricing on those services, see our breakdown of IPTV sports packages.
Free ways to watch some US content
Not everything costs money. Free streaming services such as Pluto TV and Samsung TV Plus carry themed channels, including some American shows and classic series, supported by adverts. UK catch-up services also buy US series from time to time, so it is worth searching BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 and My5 before paying for a subscription.
The selection rotates and you will not find the newest prestige dramas there, but for comedy, reality and older box sets it can be surprisingly good.
Building a cheaper “American TV” bundle
You do not need every service at once. Many UK viewers rotate subscriptions:
- Pick a base: Freeview or a basic pay TV package for live UK channels.
- Add one premium streamer for the shows you are currently watching, such as HBO Max for a new HBO season.
- Cancel and switch when the season ends. Most streamers in the UK let you cancel monthly plans at any time.
- Check bundles first. Sky Cinema includes Paramount+, and Sky Essential includes Netflix with ads, so you may already have access.

If you want a wide international channel line-up in one app, our own plan, IPTV Journal, costs $89 for 12 months (billed in US dollars). In the UK, only use IPTV services that hold the rights to the channels they show; our UK IPTV guide explains how to check.
