How to Install IPTV on Smart TV: Every Brand Explained

How to install IPTV on smart TV comes down to one question: which operating system does your TV run? Samsung uses Tizen, LG uses webOS, Sony and many TCL and Hisense models use Google TV, and other sets run Roku TV, Fire TV, VIDAA or Vizio SmartCast. Once you know the system, you install a player app from its store (or plug in a streaming stick), enter the login from your IPTV service, and load the TV guide.

This page shows how to install IPTV on smart TV models from every major brand. Start with the quick answer table, jump to your brand, then follow the generic setup steps. A player app only plays what you add to it: it ships with no channels, so you also need a subscription from a service you trust.

Before you look up how to install IPTV on smart TV models like yours, find the OS. Open Settings > Support or Settings > About. The OS name usually appears there, and the home screen is a strong clue too: a Google TV home screen says “Google TV”, a Roku TV shows the purple Roku menu, and Fire TV sets show the Amazon interface.

Samsung smart TVs (Tizen)

Samsung TVs run Tizen, so Android apps like TiviMate will not install on them. You need a player built for Tizen from the Samsung app store. At the time of writing, the US Samsung app store lists IPTV Smarters by WHMCS Smarters as a free app with Xtream Codes and EPG support. Its listing says plainly that it is a player only and that users must have their own content.

Two cautions. First, both Smarters listings on the Samsung store were last updated in 2023, so the TV version is older than the phone and Android versions. Second, the IPTV Smarters Pro listing notes that providers must register their server with the app, so your login may not work unless your provider supports it. Ask your provider before you rely on it.

If you want to install IPTV on Samsung TV with the most choice, plugging in a Google TV stick is often simpler. Our full guide to IPTV on Samsung smart TV covers model years and store differences.

LG smart TVs (webOS)

LG TVs run webOS and use the LG Content Store. LG has a wider set of player apps than Samsung. A roundup of webOS IPTV apps updated in April 2026 lists SS IPTV and ClouDDy as free, Smart IPTV as free to try with a one-time activation fee of a few dollars or euros, and IBO Player Pro with a free trial followed by a one-time lifetime license tied to the TV’s MAC address.

Activation fees go to the app developer, not your IPTV service, and they can change, so check the current price before you pay. To install IPTV on LG TV, open the Content Store, search for the app by name, check the publisher, and install it. Our IPTV on LG smart TV guide walks through each app, and our IBO Player setup guide explains the MAC address and activation step in detail.

Google TV and Android TV: Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense

If your TV runs Google TV or Android TV, you are in the best position. Sony’s current TVs use Google TV, and many TCL, Hisense and Philips models do too (check yours, since these brands also sell Roku TV, Fire TV and VIDAA sets). These TVs install apps from Google Play, the same store used by Android TV boxes and Google TV streamers.

That means you can use IPTV on Android TV with the strongest player apps. TiviMate, with its cable-style guide grid, is on Google Play, as is VLC for quick M3U testing. IPTV Smarters Pro for Android comes from the developer’s website rather than Google Play, so Google Play players are the simpler pick on a TV. See our IPTV on Android TV box guide for setup screens that also apply to built-in Google TV sets, and our best IPTV player ranking if you want to compare apps.

Hisense VIDAA TVs

Many lower-priced Hisense models run VIDAA, Hisense’s own system, instead of Google TV. VIDAA has its own app store, and its player app selection is smaller and varies by country. If you want IPTV on Hisense TV with VIDAA, search the store for a player app, check the publisher and any activation fee, and test with a short trial if one is offered.

If the store has nothing you trust, use the HDMI port: a Google TV or Android TV stick turns a VIDAA set into a full IPTV setup in about 15 minutes. Hisense models that already run Google TV follow the section above instead.

Roku TVs from TCL, Hisense and others

Roku TVs are the hardest case. Roku does not offer TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro or VLC, and it has no consumer sideloading option. That rules out the common player apps on a TCL or Hisense Roku TV. Roku TVs are still excellent for licensed live TV apps and free channel apps like The Roku Channel and Pluto TV.

For a subscription that uses Xtream Codes or an M3U link, the realistic answer for IPTV on TCL TV with Roku is to plug in an Android TV or Google TV stick and switch inputs. Our IPTV on Roku guide explains what does and does not work.

Fire TV Edition TVs: Insignia, Toshiba and Hisense

TVs with Fire TV built in, such as Insignia and Toshiba models and some Hisense sets, run Amazon’s Fire OS. TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro are not in the Amazon Appstore, so on these TVs they are installed through the Downloader app after you allow apps from unknown sources for Downloader in the developer options.

Amazon is now moving some devices to Vega OS, a Linux-based system that blocks sideloading. According to an AFTVnews list updated on October 5, 2026, the Vega OS devices are the 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick HD, the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and the 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick 4K. The same list says all smart TVs with Fire TV built in still run Fire OS and support Downloader. More Vega OS models may follow, so check before you buy a new Fire TV device.

Vizio SmartCast and Panasonic TVs

Vizio TVs run SmartCast, which offers a fixed list of apps chosen by Vizio. You cannot add third-party IPTV players or sideload apps, so for IPTV on a Vizio the answer is a streaming stick in a spare HDMI port.

Panasonic depends on the model. Recent Panasonic TVs sold in the US run Fire TV, so they follow the Fire TV route above. Older or non-US models use Panasonic’s own My Home Screen system, which has very few IPTV players. Check the settings menu, then follow the matching section or use a stick.

How to install IPTV on smart TV with a streaming stick

The simplest way to install IPTV on smart TV sets that block player apps is a stick. Every TV with an HDMI port can run IPTV, whatever its brand or age. A Google TV or Android TV streamer gives you Google Play and the full range of player apps, and it gets updates on its own schedule rather than waiting on your TV maker.

  • Best for: Roku TVs, Vizio, VIDAA, older Samsung and LG sets, and anyone who wants TiviMate
  • What to check: a free HDMI port, Wi-Fi or an Ethernet adapter, and enough storage for a guide
  • Fire TV sticks: fine on Fire OS models, but avoid the Vega OS models listed above if you need sideloaded players
  • Bonus: you can move the stick to another TV or take it on a trip

How to install IPTV on smart TV: step-by-step

Here is how to install IPTV on smart TV platforms of any brand. Menu names differ a little, but the order is the same. For brand-specific screenshots, browse our installation guides.

  1. Get your login. Your IPTV service should give you Xtream Codes details (server URL, username, password) or an M3U playlist link, plus an EPG (guide) link if the guide is separate.
  2. Install a player app. Open your TV’s app store (Samsung apps, LG Content Store, Google Play, VIDAA store or Amazon Appstore), search for the player by name, and confirm the publisher before installing.
  3. Activate if required. Apps like IBO Player Pro and Smart IPTV show a MAC address and device key on screen. You enter those on the developer’s website to add your playlist or pay the activation fee.
  4. Enter your login. Choose Xtream Codes if you have it, since it usually pulls the guide, movies and series automatically. Otherwise paste the M3U URL. Type carefully: one wrong character breaks the login.
  5. Load the EPG. If the guide is empty, add the EPG URL in the app’s settings and refresh. Guides can take a few minutes to load the first time.
  6. Test and tune. Play a few channels, set a favorites list, and use Ethernet if your TV has a port. Wired connections are usually more stable than Wi-Fi.

A login to use: the IPTV Journal plan

IPTV Journal sells its own IPTV plan, so treat this as our offer rather than a neutral review. It costs 12 months for $89 (about $7.40 a month) and comes with an Xtream Codes login plus an M3U link, so it works with TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro and other players covered above. You get live channels, movies and series, HD and 4K where available, 24/7 support, card payment and a 7-day money-back guarantee.

Honest limits: whichever way you install IPTV on smart TV, you need a player app on your TV or a stick, there is no native Roku app, and there is no cloud DVR. If your TV is a Roku or Vizio, plan on adding a stick.

FAQ

Is it hard to learn how to install IPTV on smart TV?

No. Most setups take 10 to 20 minutes, but not every TV has a built-in app. Samsung, LG, Google TV, VIDAA and Fire TV sets can run player apps directly. Roku and Vizio TVs cannot, so you plug in an Android TV or Google TV stick, which works on any TV with an HDMI port.

What is the best app for IPTV on smart TV?

It depends on the platform. On Google TV and Android TV, TiviMate is a strong choice. On LG, SS IPTV, Smart IPTV and IBO Player Pro are common options, and on Samsung the store lists IPTV Smarters. Our best IPTV player guide compares them in more depth.

Do IPTV apps on smart TVs cost money?

Some do. SS IPTV is free, while apps like Smart IPTV and IBO Player Pro offer a trial and then charge a one-time activation fee per TV. That fee is paid to the app developer and is separate from your IPTV subscription.

How do I install IPTV on Samsung TV if the app is missing?

Store listings change by model year and region. If you cannot find a player, check that your TV software is up to date, then try again. If it is still missing, a Google TV stick in an HDMI port is the most reliable fix.

Can I use IPTV on a Roku TV?

Not with the usual player apps. Roku does not carry TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro or VLC and does not allow sideloading. Use a streaming stick for your IPTV login, and keep the Roku side for licensed and free channel apps.

Why does my IPTV guide not show on my smart TV?

Usually the EPG link is missing or still loading, which is the most common snag after people learn how to install IPTV on smart TV apps. Add the guide URL from your provider in the app settings, refresh it, and give it a few minutes. If you used an M3U link, switching to Xtream Codes often fixes the guide automatically.
