IPTV on LG Smart TV: webOS Players, Setup and Limits

To watch IPTV on an LG Smart TV, you install an IPTV player from the LG Content Store (called Apps on newer webOS versions), then load the M3U link or Xtream Codes login from your provider. LG’s webOS store has a wider choice of IPTV players than most TV platforms, including IPTV Smarters Pro, IBO Player Pro, Smart IPTV and SS IPTV in many regions.

What you cannot do is install Android apps. webOS is LG’s own system, so TiviMate and other APK-only players are off the table. Below is how to choose a player, set it up, and decide whether the TV app is enough or a stick is the better fix.

How IPTV works on webOS

Every IPTV setup has two parts: a player and a source. The player is an app on the TV. The source is a playlist or login from a service you subscribe to. Players ship with no channels, so installing one on its own shows an empty screen.

On LG TVs the player runs natively inside webOS. That means it uses the TV’s own remote, network connection and video decoder, with no extra box. The upside is simplicity. The downside is that features depend on what each developer builds for webOS, which is usually less than the Android versions of the same apps.

IPTV players in the LG Content Store

Availability changes by country and webOS version, so search on your own TV. At the time of writing, these players are commonly listed in the LG store:

PlayerLogin optionsCost modelGood for
IPTV Smarters ProXtream Codes or M3U, entered in the appFree app; some features may need activationFamiliar interface across devices
IBO Player ProM3U or Xtream, via app or MAC-based web portalTrial, then one-time activation per TVClean UI, movie and series sections
Smart IPTV (SIPTV)M3U uploaded on the developer site using the TV’s MACTrial, then a small one-time feeLightweight, long-running app
SS IPTVPlaylist via code or URLFreeBasic live channels

When you search for IPTV Smarters Pro, check the publisher name. Copycat apps with similar icons exist on several platforms, so stick to the official developer listing.

Step-by-step: set up IPTV on an LG TV

This example uses IPTV Smarters Pro, because it lets you type your login directly on the TV.

  1. Press the Home button and open the LG Content Store or Apps.
  2. Select the search icon and type “IPTV Smarters”. Open the official listing and choose Install.
  3. Launch the app and accept the terms.
  4. Choose Login with Xtream Codes API if your provider gave you a server URL, username and password. Choose the M3U option if you only have a playlist link.
  5. Enter a profile name, then the details exactly as your provider sent them. The server URL usually includes “http://” and sometimes a port number.
  6. Select Add User and wait while channels, EPG, movies and series load.
  7. Open Live TV, pick a category and check that a few channels play smoothly.

For players that use a MAC address (IBO Player Pro, Smart IPTV), the flow is slightly different: open the app, note the MAC address and key, then add your playlist on the developer’s website from a phone or computer and reload the app. Our IPTV player app setup guide covers both login styles.

Tips for smoother playback on LG TVs

A few settings make a real difference on webOS, especially with large playlists.

  • Use Ethernet if you can. Many LG TVs have a 100 Mbps wired port, which is still plenty for 4K and more stable than crowded Wi-Fi.
  • Hide categories you never watch. Fewer channels means faster EPG loading and smoother scrolling.
  • Turn off Quick Start+ only if needed. It speeds up wake time, but if an app freezes after standby, a full power cycle can clear it.
  • Keep webOS updated through Settings, then Support, Software Update.

Limits you should expect

LG has one of the better TV platforms for IPTV, but it is still more limited than an Android device.

  • No TiviMate or Android-only players. If you love TiviMate’s guide grid and recording, webOS cannot run it.
  • Recording and catch-up vary. Some webOS players support catch-up if your provider offers it. Local recording is rare.
  • One license per TV. MAC-based activations are tied to the specific TV.
  • Older webOS versions. Sets from around 2017 and earlier may no longer see current player versions in the store.
  • Store changes. IPTV players can be removed in some regions without notice.

When an external stick is the better fix

Add a streaming stick when you want the full Android player library, multiple user profiles with recordings, or one device you can move between rooms. A Fire TV Stick or Google TV Streamer plugs into an HDMI port and runs TiviMate, Smarters and nearly every other player. Our roundup of the best streaming devices for 2026 compares current options.

Picking your IPTV source

IPTV technology is legal, but services that rebroadcast channels without licenses are not, so check rights and local law before subscribing. LG TVs also include LG Channels, a free ad-supported channel service, and the store carries licensed live TV apps such as YouTube TV, Sling TV and Pluto TV.

If you want an IPTV subscription that loads into Smarters or IBO Player on your LG, our own plan, IPTV Journal, costs $89 for 12 months and supports Xtream Codes and M3U.

Which LG setup should you choose?

For most LG owners, IPTV Smarters Pro or IBO Player Pro from the Content Store is the fastest start, with nothing extra to buy. If you outgrow it and want deeper guide features, keep the TV app as a backup and add a stick for daily use.

FAQ

Is IPTV Smarters Pro free on LG TVs?

The app is free to download from the LG Content Store in many regions. You still need your own IPTV subscription or playlist, since the app ships with no channels. Check the listing on your TV for any in-app activation requirements.

Can I install TiviMate on an LG Smart TV?

No. TiviMate is built for Android TV and Google TV, and webOS cannot run Android apps. To use TiviMate with an LG TV, connect a Fire TV Stick, Google TV Streamer or another Android-based device to an HDMI port.

Why can’t I find an IPTV app in my LG Content Store?

App availability depends on your country setting, webOS version and the TV’s model year. Some players have also been removed from certain regions. Updating the TV software sometimes helps, but older sets may simply not have access to current versions.

Do LG TVs support 4K IPTV streams?

Recent LG 4K TVs can decode 4K HEVC streams in most webOS players, as long as your provider offers 4K channels and your connection is fast enough. A wired connection is the most reliable option for 4K.

Does LG Channels need an IPTV subscription?

No. LG Channels is a free, licensed, ad-supported service built into LG TVs. It covers news, movies and niche channels but not most premium sports networks.
