An Xtream Codes login is a set of three details your IPTV service gives you: a server URL (usually with a port number), a username and a password. You type them into a player app such as TiviMate, IPTV Smarters or iMPlayer, and the app uses them to fetch your channels, movies, series and TV guide automatically. It is an alternative to pasting one long M3U playlist link, and most apps find it easier to keep in sync.
Xtream Codes is a login format, not a service or an app. It contains no channels on its own.
Where the name comes from
Xtream Codes started as control-panel software that IPTV operators used to manage servers and customer accounts. In September 2019, Italian police, with Europol and Eurojust coordinating raids in several countries, shut down the company as part of a crackdown on pirate pay-TV platforms.
The software’s way of exposing accounts to apps lived on. Other panels copied the same web addresses, so “Xtream Codes login” today simply describes the format. Many legitimate and illegitimate services use it, so the format tells you nothing about whether a service is licensed. That is something to check separately.
The three fields, one by one
| Field | Example | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Server URL | http://line.example.com:8080 | The address of your provider’s server, including the port |
| Username | a1b2c3d4 | Your account name, often a random string rather than an email |
| Password | x9y8z7w6 | Your account password, also often random |
The server URL and port
The server URL is the part most people get wrong. It usually starts with http:// and ends with a colon and a number, such as :8080 or :80. That number is the port, and leaving it off is one of the most common causes of a failed login. Enter only the base address. Do not add a trailing slash or anything like /player_api.php after it, because the app adds those parts itself.
Username and password
These are case-sensitive. Copy them exactly from your welcome email. If your provider uses random strings, watch for characters that look alike, such as a capital I and a lowercase l, or 0 and O.
What the app does with your login
Behind the scenes, your app combines the three fields into web requests to standard addresses on the server:
- player_api.php checks your account and returns details such as status, expiry date and allowed connections, then the lists of live categories, movies and series.
- xmltv.php returns the TV guide in XMLTV format.
- get.php can return your whole account as a classic M3U playlist.
That is why Xtream logins feel smoother than M3U: the app can show your expiry date, load movies and series in separate sections and refresh everything without you re-entering a link.
Converting between Xtream Codes and M3U
The same account can almost always be used both ways. Many providers send both formats. If you only have the Xtream details, the M3U version usually follows this pattern (placeholders shown):
http://line.example.com:8080/get.php?username=USER&password=PASS&type=m3u_plus&output=ts
And the guide link usually looks like this:
http://line.example.com:8080/xmltv.php?username=USER&password=PASS
Use the M3U version for players without an Xtream screen, such as VLC or Kodi’s IPTV Simple Client. If output=ts does not play on an Apple device, some providers support output=m3u8 instead. Confirm with your provider, because not every server is set up the same way. Our M3U playlist explained guide shows how to read what the link returns.
How to enter an Xtream login in popular apps
- Open the app and choose to add a playlist, user or profile.
- Select Xtream Codes (Smarters labels it “Login with Xtream Codes API”).
- Type a name for the playlist, then the server URL with port, username and password.
- Confirm and wait for channels, movies and series to load.
- Add a separate EPG link only if the guide does not appear.
For app-specific screens, see our TiviMate setup guide or the general IPTV player app setup guide.
Fixing “login failed” and other errors
| Error or symptom | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Login failed or invalid credentials | Missing port, typo, or extra path in the URL | Re-enter the server with :port and no trailing slash |
| Account expired | Subscription ended | Check your expiry date and renew with your provider |
| Max connections reached | Login in use on another device | Stop playback elsewhere or ask about extra connections |
| Logs in but no guide | Server has no EPG for some channels | Add the XMLTV link manually |
| Worked yesterday, fails today | Provider changed server address | Ask your provider for the current URL |
If the login works but channels buffer, the problem is the connection rather than the login. Our IPTV connection troubleshooting guide covers that.
Keeping your login safe
Treat your Xtream details like any password. Do not post them in forums or screenshots, because anyone with them can use your account and your connection allowance. Be wary of sellers offering “lifetime” logins at very low prices; they often vanish or are unlicensed. Our guide to subscribing to IPTV safely explains what to check.
When you are ready for a service, our plan, IPTV Journal, costs $89 for 12 months and comes with both an Xtream Codes login and an M3U link. You can see the plan details here.
FAQ
Is Xtream Codes an IPTV provider?
No. Xtream Codes was a company that made management software for IPTV operators, and it was shut down in 2019. Today the name describes a login format that many services and apps use.
Is using an Xtream Codes login legal?
The login format itself is just technology and is legal to use. What matters is whether the service behind it holds the rights to its channels, so check that before you subscribe and follow the law where you live.
Do I need to include the port in the server URL?
Usually yes. If your provider gave you an address with a number after a colon, such as :8080, include it exactly. Leaving it off is one of the most common reasons a login fails.
Can I use one Xtream login on several devices?
You can enter it on several devices, but your plan sets how many can stream at the same time. If you exceed the limit, you will see a max connections error.
What is the difference between Xtream Codes and M3U?
Both give access to the same account. Xtream Codes uses three fields and lets the app load channels, movies, series and the guide separately, while M3U puts everything into one playlist link.
