Yes, you can watch IPTV on Xbox. Xbox Series X, Series S and Xbox One run apps from the Microsoft Store, and that store carries IPTV player apps such as MyIPTV Player and Kodi. You load the M3U playlist and EPG link from your provider, and the console becomes a live TV box. This guide covers the setup, the alternatives, and the limits you should know before you start.
What you need before you start
- An Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S or Xbox One with an internet connection (wired Ethernet is best for live TV).
- An IPTV subscription that gives you an M3U playlist URL and, ideally, an EPG (XMLTV) URL for the TV guide.
- A Microsoft account signed in on the console so you can install apps from the Microsoft Store.
- Optional: a USB keyboard. Typing long playlist URLs with a controller is slow, and a keyboard plugs straight into the console.
If the playlist and EPG terms are new to you, read how M3U links work first. It will make the setup steps below much easier to follow.
Option 1: MyIPTV Player (the most common Xbox choice)
MyIPTV Player is a Windows Store app that also runs on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It reads M3U playlists and XMLTV guide data, and its interface is built around a channel list with a simple guide view. Like every player, it ships with no channels at all.
- Open the Microsoft Store on your Xbox, search for MyIPTV Player and select Install.
- Launch the app and open Settings.
- Choose Add new playlist and EPG source.
- Give the playlist a name (for example “IPTV”), paste your M3U URL into the Remote channel list field and select Add remote list.
- Give the guide a name (for example “EPG”), paste your EPG URL into the program guide field and select Add EPG source.
- Go back to Settings, select your playlist and EPG source, then press Refresh on each.
- Wait a minute or two for the lists to load, then open Channels and start watching.
Large playlists with thousands of channels can take a while to load on the first refresh. If the guide stays empty, check that the EPG link is the one your provider gave you and refresh it again.
Option 2: Kodi from the Microsoft Store
Kodi, the open-source media center, is available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through the Microsoft Store. On most platforms, live TV in Kodi comes from the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on, which you install from Settings, Add-ons, Install from repository, PVR clients.
There is a catch on Xbox. Compiled add-ons such as PVR clients need a build made for the Xbox version of Kodi, and these can be missing or arrive later than on Windows or Android. Check whether PVR IPTV Simple Client appears in the PVR clients list on your console before you plan around it. If it is there, our guide to Kodi for live TV explains the rest of the setup.
Option 3: Microsoft Edge on Xbox
The Xbox has a full Microsoft Edge browser. If your provider offers a web player, you can sign in and watch from Edge, and some sports streaming sites play well there too. Two tips help: plug in a keyboard and mouse, and if full-screen video stutters, look for the graphics acceleration option in Edge settings.
A browser is a backup, not the best experience. You get no proper channel guide, and controller navigation inside web pages is clumsy.
Licensed live TV apps on Xbox
If you just want live channels with no playlist setup, Xbox Series X|S supports several licensed services. These work out of the box and need no M3U link.
| Service | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube TV | Paid live TV | Full cable-style lineup with locals in most US markets |
| Sling TV | Paid live TV | Cheaper base packages, add-ons for sports |
| Hulu (with Live TV) | Paid live TV | Live channels plus the Hulu library |
| Pluto TV | Free (ads) | Free ad-supported channels, no account needed |
| Tubi | Free (ads) | Mostly on demand, plus live news and FAST channels |
Prices and lineups change often, so check each service before you sign up.
Tips for smooth IPTV on Xbox
- Use Ethernet. Xbox consoles have a gigabit port, and a cable is more stable than Wi-Fi for live sports. Our guide on why IPTV streams buffer covers the other usual causes of stutter.
- Mind power mode. The console can suspend apps in the background. Keep the player in the foreground while you watch.
- Keep one connection per stream. If your plan allows one connection, do not watch on the Xbox and a phone at the same time.
- Refresh after changes. If your provider updates the playlist, run Refresh in the player so new channels appear.
A quick legal note: IPTV as a technology is legal, but services that rebroadcast channels without licenses are not. Check what your provider has rights to and follow your local law. Player apps never include channels; they only play the playlist you load.
Is Xbox a good IPTV box?
It works, especially if the console is already under your TV. MyIPTV Player covers the basics, Kodi adds more polish if its PVR add-on is available on your console, and Edge is there as a fallback. What you do not get is the depth of Android players like TiviMate, with catch-up menus, recording and multi-view. If live TV becomes your main use, a cheap streaming stick on another HDMI input is often the better tool. See the best streaming devices of 2026 for options.
Need a service to put in the player? Our own plan, IPTV Journal, is one 12-month subscription for $89 (about $7.40 a month), with M3U and EPG links that work in MyIPTV Player and Kodi.
FAQ
Is there an official IPTV app on Xbox?
There is no Microsoft-made IPTV player, but third-party players such as MyIPTV Player and Kodi are in the Microsoft Store. They are players only. You need your own playlist from a provider.
Does IPTV work on Xbox Series S as well as Series X?
Yes. The player apps in this guide install from the same Microsoft Store on both consoles, and on Xbox One. The Series S has less storage, but IPTV players are small apps.
Why is the TV guide empty in MyIPTV Player?
Usually the EPG link is missing, wrong, or has not been refreshed. Add the XMLTV URL from your provider as an EPG source, select it, and press Refresh. Channel IDs in the playlist also need to match the guide data.
Can I use Xtream Codes login on Xbox?
MyIPTV Player is built around M3U and EPG links rather than an Xtream username and password form. Most providers can give you an M3U link that contains your login, so ask support for that format.
Can I record IPTV on Xbox?
Recording is limited on Xbox players. If DVR matters to you, an Android TV device or a computer gives you far more recording options.
